Relief Society Reenactment

We enjoyed reenacting the first Relief Society meetings where we got an idea what it was like for these women who were the first in this dispensation to be organized into a sisterhood. Joseph Smith told the sisters that an organization for women has always existed on the earth. We have much to be grateful for as these women boldly proclaimed their allegiance and desire to serve the Lord, leading this new dispensation to form a new sisterhood.

My calling is to watch over some wonderful ladies at a care facility, a dependent branch of my home ward. I have counselors and work with some men who serve as the Priesthood leadership.

During the month of March, we decided to put on this simple reenactment of the early Relief Society meetings. I had asked a few people from the ward to come over and help and word got out and we ended up with quite a room full of people.

It’s one thing to read about what happened in that first meeting, and even to know it happened…but when you see it in action, the Spirit rests upon you testifying that Relief Society is truly divine, that there is an importance to its work, and that the mission is yet to be fulfilled in us.

A big thank you to all those who participated. The actors really got into their part with hair and costumes. And the audience was a part of all the voting. The evening was mesmerizing.

I testify that the Relief Society is a valued organization in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Knowing its history helps us believe in its purpose, which teaches us to be involved in its destiny. Our work is to bring all people to Christ and prepare for His coming.

Thank you to Heather, who wrote the script. You can find the script here to hold your own reenactment. And be sure to visit Women in the Scriptures.
